The EIF Guidebook provides information about early intervention programmes that have been evaluated and shown to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Through a rigorous assessment process, EIF has rated the strength of evidence for a programme's impact and its relative costs.

The Guidebook also provides a wealth of information about the specific outcomes a programme has been shown to improve and the size of those improvements, how the programme works and how it is delivered, and the conditions or resources that can make a programme more likely to be effective.

Spotlight sets

Each of our Spotlight sets brings together programmes related to a particular area of interest.

Improving interparental relationships

Programmes that focus on improving aspects of the relationship between parent couples, whether living together or apart, and which have been shown to improve outcomes for their children.
School-based social & emotional learning

Programmes that seek to improve children and young people’s social, emotional and behavioural skills. These programmes are intended to be delivered by teachers or other staff in primary or secondary schools, rather than at home or in other professional settings.

Programmes for children with recognised or possible special education needs

Programmes designed for children with SEND or that can be delivered to children with SEND, with evidence of improving relevant child outcomes, including programmes that target academic skills, and internalising and externalising behaviours in children with recognised or possible special education needs, to be offered to children and/or as additional support for parents. Targeted child behaviours include oppositional or aggressive behaviours, poor social skills, challenges with emotional regulation, and learning or language difficulties.
